Chapter 76 - The first test (vi).
The audience staring at the screen could not understand Zilan’s inscriptions and at the same time the Elders were frozen in shock. However, despite the awe-inspiring display of technique and knowledge, no one could identify the reason for the inscriptions.
“This child isn’t simple.” Whispered Elder White Snow. “Junior Amani, what is he trying to do?”
Amani smiled wryly before helplessly shrugging, “If even you don’t know then how am I supposed to know?”
“This one does not know.” His tone was nevertheless respectful.
Meanwhile in the green forest, Zilan’s brows were furrowed as he poured all of his focus onto the inscriptions.
Any discrepancy or slight mistake would lead to the best case scenario of the formation collapsing and in the worst case the entire thing would explode outwards. If they were lucky, heavy injuries would be akin to blessings.
It took a whole hour for Zilan to finish the inscriptions. Now all that was left was the creation of the power ports that would stabilise the formation.
In the past he would use beast cores as the power sources and place them at strategic positions in order to make sure the formations were stable however, if he was to try that now in the domain of beasts, his life would swiftly and abrupt come to an end.
That’s why this time he was going to draw up tiny inscriptions at these strategic points and then have someone else pump their energy into it.
Once he was done, he turned towards Fujo and while smiling said,
“Would Brother Fujo be willing to lend a hand?”
“Oh! What do you need?” Hearing Zilan’s words, Fujo suddenly broke out of his own world and smiled. He was unable to comprehend even the slightest thing from just looking at the inscription.
If Zilan knew that he was actually trying to analyse the formation with just his eyes then he would probably first die of laughter before wondering what mental illness had latched onto the young Master.
The [Evil Refining Process] although amazing was not a heaven defying formation. Only in lower realms would these types of formation be seen as priceless treasures. In fact most of the formations in the set were not too crazy, the true gem was the principle behind the formations.
The Book of Path even stated that if all of its potential was drawn out, refining a world or even an entire realm was not necessarily impossible. Of course, to accomplish such a feat the strength of the person laying down the formation must be equally as earth shattering.
"Just infuse these spots with enough Beast force to keep the formation functional.” Explained Zilan.
“What?! This is a formation?” Fujo sucked in a long breath before looking at Zilan. It could be said that he was using a new pair of eyes to gaze upon and assess this ‘fortune’ standing before him.
Most Beasts were not particularly skilled in formations and even those that were, did not exceed a hundred. Among these the most skilled would be the old Experts who’d been among the living for hundreds of years.
The reason for their lack of skill in formations was simply because formations at their core were foreign items that had been discovered by humans. At least that was the case in this lesser realm.
Any progress made in this field came from studying ancient formations left by humans of the past or from trading with humans for manuals. However, in the end this all came down to self-study as it was unheard of for a Beast to be taken as a disciple by a human, thus great strides were not made in this field.
As for Alchemy, Inscriptions, arrays and even Spirit cultivation, these fields were much easier to understand for Beasts. There was a reason for this and Zilan was most likely one of the few people in the world who knew of it.
Fujo’s eyes instantly brightened when he thought about Zilan’s prowess in formations. His Uncle had not let him down.
With a laugh, he moved closer to the formation and after stretching out his hands began to insert his Beast force.
Surprisingly, the energy coming from him was actually both lightning and fire. Forget combining the two, if a practitioner had only one of these attributes, they would be praised as geniuses.
In the future Fujo was basically guaranteed to become a strong figure.
Seeing this, Zilan smiled as a sudden interesting thought came to mind.
“He could be useful in the future.” A hint of a deep, scheming smile hang on Zilan’s face.
He then smacked Kifo on the back and pointed towards the formation.
“Hurry up! You are the fuel for my formation. Oh! You should probably brace yourself for a jolt once the formation is activated.”
Kifo frowned watching Zilan’s carefree attitude.
“Ah~ I can already see a future of me running around doing crazy tasks for this wolf in sheep’s clothing. No, no…he is a Dragon, much worse….Sigh~”
With that inward expression of his feelings providing some emotional relief, Kifo did the same thing as Fujo. He stretched out his hands and pumped out pure Darkness Beast force into the formations.
On the Elders hill,
“That is a formation!” exclaimed an Elder who was sitting to the side of White Snow.
“Oh! Eight Brother, do you recognise what those kids are doing?”
The so-called eight brother narrowed his eyes as if trying to see through the inscriptions. However, after a while he slowly shook his head.
“I can’t understand it. Just what are they up to?....That Half Breed, that formation….Amani, this time Wazimu has once again gained something because of you.”
Amani didn’t reply, only smiling.
However, just as he was enjoying the praise, faint tremors originating from Zilan’s location started rumbling.
The intensity continued to grow stronger and stronger with every passing breath until a blinding black light suddenly exploded from the circular formation. The intricate inscriptions started revolving at a moderate pace, flashing with indescribable power.
At this moment an eye catching pillar of black light shot out from the green forest, piercing through the towering trees. The tremors suddenly turned into powerful quakes, causing vast amounts of wind and dust to scatter across the forest.
Some of the spectators were even able to feel the faint shaking of the ground from their sitting positions.
“What’s going on? Are they doing this?” shouted a frightened young Association member.
If before it was said the Elders were impressed with the formations intricacy, then currently they were all currently horrified by its power.
“Only a fourth or fifth rank manual would have this much power? Just who is this Half Breed?” shouted an Elder who was at a loss for words.
A boy who looked about fifteen was actually able to comprehend something so formidable? Such impressive perception was already beyond the mere genius level.
As they lost themselves in their wonder, dozens of branches and tendrils suddenly broke through the surface of the ground in the middle of the clearing.
“Whatever you do, do not enter the formation. The tree is about to appear.” Warned Zilan. His robes fluttered wildly in the wind but his mind remained quite calm.
Just as his voice faded, a three foot tall white pine tree that had hundreds of extremely thin tendrils twirling around it appeared. Its appearance very much resembled a frightening Spector that came straight out of a nightmare.
“Kifo, don’t let up at all. Push everything you can into the formation, we can’t give it time to retaliate. It hasn’t been completely restrained yet.” Ordered Zilan.
Not daring to dawdle, Kifo let out a low growl and pushed everything he had into the formation.
